The Top 5 Questions to Ask a Print Remanufacturer!

When it comes to remanufactured print consumables, not all providers are created equal. Sure, some may be more affordable than others, but what they discount in price is often discounted in quality.  Others may offer a decent product, but unreliable service is beginning to affect your business. For these reasons, it’s important to thoroughly vet a remanufacture-r ahead of time, to ensure you get the product and service you’ve been looking for.

So, whether you’re a value-added reseller looking for an affordable print alternative or a managed service provider wanting to make the switch to a more reliable partner, here’s what you should be asking a remanufactured print consumables provider:

March 19th BlogThe Top 5 Questions to Ask a Print Remanufacturer

1. Do You Replace Defective Parts?

One of the first questions you’ll want to ask is if the remanufacturer takes the time to actually REPLACE defective cartridge components or if they simply inspect for major flaws, clean and refill. Most quality remanufactured cartridges have been used only once and are then thoroughly disassembled with parts repaired or replaced. Only then are they cleaned, reassembled and refilled. This process makes a significant difference when compared to the simple refill versions, which have a much higher failure rate.

2. What is Your Page-Yield or Duty Cycle?

Be sure to ask the remanufacturer about both page yield (cartridges) and duty cycle (other remanufactured print items such as drums). Both are meant to give the user an indication of how long the product should be expected to last via the number of pages printed. While page yields and duty cycles will vary depending on usage, the remanufacturer should be able to provide this information when it comes to all their products.

3. How Well Are Your Products Tested?

A good print remanufacturer should test their products again and again to ensure quality output and customer satisfaction. They should be operating under industry standards in addition to being very open about their processes. If a remanufacturer doesn’t have this information listed on their site, this could be a red flag, so be sure to ask them.

4. Do You Offer a Warranty or Guarantee?

Remanufactured shouldn't be equated with second-rate. In fact, a good remanufacturer will stand behind the quality of their products with a 100% warranty or guarantee. In the event you’re unhappy with an item for any reason, the remanufacturer should offer you a replacement.

5. How Will Your Products be a Value-Add to My Business?

As we mentioned, cheaper doesn’t mean better – even when it comes to remanufactured cartridges. However, a good remanufacturer will offer competitive pricing or pricing strategy that consistently delivers predictable 30-60% savings (over the OEM price). This means you can expect an affordable yet QUALITY product for your business that will allow you to spend less and save more.

A remanufactured print provider should also be reliable. You should never have to worry about inventory, shipping or service. In fact, you should look for a partner who provides drop shipment options – allowing you to reduce your dependence on inventory and make room for more important things in your business.
